Nov. 10, 2006 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped its inaugural game in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship to Austin College by a score of 26-30, 28-30, 35-33, 30-20, 15-8 at the Sams Gymnasium on the Trinity Campus in San Antonio. The Cowgirls came so close to sweeping the match. HSU had commanding leads in each of the first two games and were able to hold the No. 17 Kangaroos off each time after furious late game rallies. In the third game, the Cowgirls led 29-26 before AC rallied to tie the game and eventually won it 35-33. After that it was all Austin College as the Cowgirls fell 30-20, 15-8 in the final two games. HSU got a strong effort from its veterans Chelsea Buetow and Virginia Aguilar who finished with 15 and 14 kills. Freshman Kaela Parnell also had 14 kills in the loss. The Cowgirls had a strong block in the match with 18. HSU ends its season with a record of 19-15. Austin College advanced to play No. 10 Emory on Friday. |
